The 5 Point Weight Loss Plan Podcast
Program Details.
Our goal is to help patients set their own goals, achieve them in the shortest time possible, and maintain this weight for life.
The 5 Point Plan:
1. Comprehensive Medical History
We want to hear about your specific situation! What were your past attempts at weight loss? What hasn’t worked and what has? We then need to explore your “medical history,” specifically, any medications, hormonal symptoms, menstrual abnormalities, and dietary patterns that may contribute to unwanted weight gain. A combination of these factors will combine to help us customize a weight loss plan that is guaranteed to help you lose weight and keep it off.
2. Customized Diet Plan
We can create a personalized diet plan tailored to your needs. The options are numerous, but the key is to pick a diet that you can stick with for the long term and see great results.
3. Pharmaceutical Support
We may recommend selected pharmaceutical products like GLP-1 drugs (Ozempic, Mounjaro, and others), Contrave, or Phentermine. Basically, such agents act as “training wheels” to re-format dietary and other patterns in your day-to-day life. Pharmaceutical products can also jump start your weight loss journey and help you see results faster. The key, however, is to find a path that does NOT include long-term usage of these pharmaceuticals. Also, we will make sure that any pharmaceutical agents chosen will fit within your personal budget. Some of them may even be covered by your health insurance plan!
4. Accountability Plan
An accountability partner, such as a medical professional or supportive friend (i.e. not a spouse!) is essential for accomplishing long term weight loss. Having a “coach” will help you stay motivated and on track to achieving your weight loss goals.
5. Comprehensive Gynecological Plan
Often women in their 30’s, 40’s, and 50’s have a strong hormonal component that in some cases may keep them from losing weight and keeping it off. One part of this component can be related to the menstrual cycle. Battling cycle related fatigue, bloating, food cravings, and “mood” definitely makes it a lot more difficult to consistently stick with your personalized health plan. Likewise, declining output from the ovaries during the “perimenopause” time-frame can also significantly impact a woman’s weight and “body shape”. It's obvious that these GYN factors play an important role in weight loss, and The Ashford Center understands how to consider these factors!!!
Next Steps
By scheduling a $99 consultation with one of our doctors or nurse Practitioners, The Ashford Center can outline a plan—based on the FIVE POINTS listed above which will guide you toward 20 pounds of weight loss over the next TWO MONTHS! This $99 consultation will also include determining whether your own health insurance coverage will pay for a portion of specific pharmaceutical agents we may recommend.
The Ashford Center offers medical weight loss specifically designed for women in Athens, GA, who require care that recognizes the profound hormonal and gynecological influences on weight. Our team seamlessly combines gynecologic expertise with evidence-based weight management, ensuring treatment plans thoroughly address medical history, current medications, menstrual symptoms, and lifestyle patterns that may affect weight. Patients, including local healthcare professionals and residents, appreciate that our approach treats the whole person, not just a single symptom, with clear medical oversight and compassionate support.
Because many patients in their 30s through 50s experience hormone-related barriers to weight loss, The Ashford Center integrates a comprehensive gynecological evaluation into every weight management plan. This means we actively investigate menstrual cycle effects, perimenopausal hormone changes, and medication interactions that can interfere with diet and exercise progress. Local patients value having this specialized evaluation done by clinicians who possess a deep understanding of female reproductive health and who can coordinate diet, pharmaceutical support, and ongoing follow-up close to home in Athens, Georgia.
Our program is practical for Athens, Georgia residents, featuring flexible scheduling and a strong emphasis on realistic, maintainable goals. We use proven medications when appropriate, including GLP-1 agents, while consistently aiming to transition patients toward sustainable healthy habits. Accountability, through regular medical follow-up and coaching, is a key component built into each plan, which helps patients achieve faster results and keep weight off over time.

Frequently Asked Questions
-
Weight gain can result from excess caloric intake, certain medications, natural hormonal shifts, thyroid dysfunction, insulin resistance, and changes in daily activity or sleep patterns. A thorough medical review helps our clinicians identify the primary drivers unique to each patient.
-
Yes, premenstrual syndrome (PMS) can directly cause fluid retention, intense cravings, fatigue, and noticeable appetite changes that make consistent weight management significantly harder. We evaluate cycle-related symptoms and strategically adjust treatment to reduce their overall impact.
-
Many patients notice initial positive changes within a few weeks, with more substantial, measurable loss typically occurring by eight weeks when medical support and prescribed dietary changes are followed consistently. Individual results, however, may vary.
-
Results are sustained longest when underlying hormonal issues are properly addressed, medications are tapered appropriately under medical guidance, and essential lifestyle habits are maintained over time. Ongoing follow-up and a structured accountability plan are essential to supporting lasting success.
-
Common side effects of GLP-1 medications can include nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, and occasional headaches. Serious risks are uncommon, but interactions with insulin or sulfonylureas can potentially cause low blood sugar (hypoglycemia). Certain pre-existing conditions, such as pregnancy, a history of pancreatitis, or a personal or family history of specific thyroid cancers (e.g., medullary thyroid carcinoma), may make some medications inappropriate for use. Your clinician will thoroughly review all potential risks before any prescription is issued.
